Indications Of Of An Inflamed Liver

Liver inflammation is a way of describing the liver disorder that’s known to most people as hepatitis.

There are a number of different forms of liver inflammation. The most common types of hepatitis are caused by viruses, and are therefore known as viral infections. This type may be further described as chronic or acute. Viral forms of hepatitis are commonly known by alphabetical names like hepatitis A, hepatitis B, hepatitis C, etc. The actual viruses that cause the infection are usually described by abbreviations, including HAV, HBV, HCV, HDV and HEV HFV and HGV.

Hepatitis B and C can be markedly serious, possibly leading to serious, even life-threatening diseases like cirrhosis or liver cancer.

Drinking too much alcohol is the most frequent reason of liver inflammation. Alcohol is toxic to the liver and regularly leads to inflammation and then cirrhosis. Three times as many people suffer from alcohol-induced hepatitis as from hepatitis C, which is one of the more common viral forms.

A number of drugs and chemicals also cause or contribute to an inflamed liver. Legal drugs, if used excessively or incorrectly, as well as illegal drugs and certain kinds of chemicals, can also cause inflammation in the liver. The level of damage caused by drugs and chemicals, of course, depends on the drugs used, dosage, duration and general health of the user. That said, it should be noted that recreational and illegal drugs can be extremely dangerous, even when used in small amounts for a relatively short time.

Certain diseases and conditions can cause inflammation in the liver, too. Wilson’s disease and hemachromatosis are two such diseases. Wilson’s disease is characterized by too much copper accumulation in the body, and hemachromatosis results from excessive amounts of iron. Rocky Mountain spotted fever, yellow fever and certain auotimmune conditions also contribute to inflammation in the liver.

Signs of an inflamed liver vary depending on the cause. But generally speaking, four symptoms are predictable.

Jaundice is characterized by yellowing of the skin and whites of the eyes. Because of this discoloration, many people call this condition yellow jaundice.

Loss of appetite is another common symptom of liver inflammation, often followed by weight loss. this sign is particularly noticeable with forms of acute hepatitis. There are also likely to be episodes of nausea and vomiting sometime after this.

Constant fatigue and a lack of energy are also typical when you have liver inflammation. When you think about it, this makes sense because your liver contributes to your metabolism. If your liver is compromised by inflammation, your energy levels are bound to drop. You’re also likely to feel weak.

Hepatitis is also characterized by muscle and joint pain. It could go on for several weeks.

Inflammation in the liver can cause pain in a variety of ways. In addition to muscle and joint pain, mentioned above, there could pain in liver area, and soreness or tenderness in the right shoulder. The intensity of this pain will depend on the progress of the inflammation.

Happily, there is no treatment needed for acute viral hepatitis, due to the fact it heals by itself. However, hepatitis B and hepatitis C are generally treated with certain medications. Two drugs that are typically used in these instances are ribavirin and interferon. Corticisteroids are often prescribed for patients with forms of autoimmune hepatitis.

Individuals who have been diagnosed with liver inflammation should avoid drinking alcohol and should also avoid taking any drugs, medications or pain relievers without consulting a doctor.
